First Quarter
Reading is Understanding
Writing is Making Other People Understand
During this quarter, we will study
Active Reading, Vocabulary, Sustained Silent Reading of self-chosen books, Conventions (grammar, etc.), Author Study on Benitiz, various short stories addressing the Challenge of Change, Visual (Media) Literacy, A Place Where the Sea Remembers. Student masery of the skills learned during this quarter will be based on an Interim Assessment. Students will also complete TAKS-Style Paragraphs, Timed Writings, and Autobiographical (Memoir) and Evaluative Essays.
Students will maintain a Dialectical Reading Journal in their Composition Books.
Textbooks and supplemental material will be provided by the school. Students may wish to purchase their own copy of A Place Where the Sea Remembers.
