Last week we reviewed In the Book, Both, & Head questions. We also looked at a memoir of a cultural conflict between British and Indian cultures. This week, well examine culture more closely by looking at two other examples of cultural conflict and confusion.

Read from Children of the River (51) silently. Write In the Book, Both, & Head questions. Discuss your questions and answers.
Friday, Nov 19
One of a writers greatest challenges is switching scenes. How does Linda Crew switch from one setting to another? Highlight references to time and place in this story.
Visualize the story. Draw a scene that shows Sundara at school. Base your drawing on the text! Copy out the direct quotations that support your drawing. Be sure to use quotation marks and to cite the page number. Now do the same thing for Sundara at home.
If time, complete the chart Where Does Sundara Fit In? (49).
