| Who can receive Communion at St. Mark's Anyone who receives Communion in his or her own church is welcome to receive it here. How do I do it? Our custom is to come to the altar rail, kneel or stand there, and receive the Communion bread in our open hands. After consuming the bread, we receive the cup, guiding it to our lips for a small taste of wine. It's best to wait for the person on your right to leave the altar rail before you do. When you return to your seat, you may kneel to pray or simply sit quietly. What if I don't want to receive Communion? You may remain in your pew or come to the altar for a blessing. If you choose to receive a blessing, just cross your arms over your chest as a way of letting the priest know what you wish to do.
