THE END OF THE WORLD
The year 2012 has a warning for those who predict that the world is coming to an end. The calendar made many years ago by the Aztecs of Mexico and Guatemala is interpreted to mean that a cycle of humanity is to end in this year in order to begin a new cycle, and therefore they predict that, on termination of the cycle, the world might end also. Last year, a Pastor was very sure that a day in May would be the end of the world and, afterward, that he had been wrong in his evaluation - and that it wasn't to be in May but in June. So, today in the first reading we hear in our Mass, the Prophet Jonah is sent to the city of Nineveh proclaiming that the city would be destroyed in 40 days if its people did not change from the evil they were doing and turn to God. The day of the world's ending is known only to our Father; all of those around us who speak and predict dates announcing this end are only trying to frighten people and cause fear among them. The only thing we do know is that God asks us to change from our sins, because sin destroys life and brings to an end everything around us.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EL FIN DEL MUNDO
El año 2012 tiene en alerta a todos aquellos que predican que el mundo se va a acabar. El calendario hecho por los Aztecas en México y Guatemala muchos años atrás, es interpretado como que en este año se termina un ciclo en la humanidad para comenzar otro ciclo nuevo y es por esto que se predice que al terminarse este ciclo, el mundo puede terminarse también. El año pasado un pastor aseguro que un día en mayo seria el final del mundo y luego dijo que se había equivocado en la apreciación, entonces que ya no era en mayo sino en junio. Bien, hoy en la primera lectura que escuchamos en la misa, el profeta Jonás es enviado a la ciudad de Nínive a proclamar que la ciudad será destruida en cuarenta días si sus gentes no se convierten de lo malo que hacen y se vuelven a Dios. El día del fin del mundo solo lo sabe nuestro Padre Dios, todos los demás que hablan y predican fechas anunciando este fin, solo intentan asustar y crear miedo en la gente. Lo único que sabemos es que Dios nos pide conversión de nuestros pecados, porque el pecado destruye la vida y acaba todo a nuestro alrededor.Rev. Victor Mayorga, Pastor
